Heart attacks are still considered to be diseases of men, but women can also be affected. But many women who do not realize that rarely detected. Recognize the symptoms of a heart attack in women.
Research conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) indicates that women often have symptoms of one month or more before finally getting a heart attack.
Among the 515 women studied, as much as 95 percent say they only learned different symptoms after one month before a heart attack or Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI).
"Unfortunately, many women who do not know that the symptoms experienced are signs of a heart attack, because the symptoms can be significantly different from men," said C. Noel Bairey Merz, MD, president of the American College of Cardiology's Prevention and Cardiovascular Diseases Committee, such as quoted from Medicinenet, Friday (2/4/2010).
Based on the research got about less than 30 percent of women experience chest pain or a sense of discomfort before a heart attack, and as many as 43 percent did not experience chest pain during a heart attack phase. But most doctors still consider chest pain as a symptom of a heart attack that are important to both men and women.
"It is increasingly clear that the symptoms experienced by women are unpredictable like the man. This show should be an awareness both of the woman or her doctor about the symptoms that can lead to heart attacks," said Patricia A Grady, PhD, RN, director of NINR (National Institute of Nursing Research).
Patricia added it was important not to miss an opportunity as early as possible to prevent or reduce the AMI, because until now the first cause of AMI is still a death in men and women.
Before a heart attack, there are several symptoms that are usually experienced by women, namely:
1. Unusual fatigue (experienced by approximately 70 percent of women)
2. Sleep disorders (experienced by approximately 48 per cent)
3. Shortness of breath (experienced by approximately 42 per cent)
4. Digestive disorders (experienced by about 39 per cent)
5. Fear (experienced by approximately 35 percent).
