History of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta.

On June 1, 2007 UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta celebrates the "golden anniversary". For half a century, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has been carry out its mandate as an institution of learning and transmitting knowledge, research institution that supports the process of nation building, and as an institution devoted to the community who donate their programs increase social welfare. For half a century, too, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has gone through several periods of history so that now this has become one of the leading Islamic universities in Indonesia. Briefly UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta history can be divided into several periods, the pioneering period, the period of al-Jami'ah faculty of IAIN, IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah period, and Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic period.
Pioneering Period

Islamic University (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, established by President Decree No. 031 of 2002. Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic history of the founding of Jakarta is a chain of historical development of Indonesian Islamic universities of higher education in responding to the needs of modern Islam that began long before Indonesian independence. In the Dutch colonial era, Dr. Satiman Wirjosandjojo, one Muslim scholar, noted Luhur never tried to establish Islamic School as an institution of higher Islamic learning. However, these efforts failed because of resistance from the Dutch colonialists.

Five years before the proclamation of independence, the Islamic Religious Teachers Association (PGAI) in Padang establishing Islamic High School (STI). STI only run for two years (1940-1942) because the Japanese occupation. Indonesian Muslims have never stopped voicing the importance of higher Islamic education for Muslims who constitute the majority of Indonesian occupation. Japanese occupation government later promised the Muslims to establish the Institute for Higher Education Religion in Jakarta. Japan's promise that the Muslim leaders responded by forming the foundation of Muhammad Hatta Muhammad Natsir as chairman and as secretary.

On July 8, 1945, to coincide with the 27 Rajab 1364, the foundation is to establish Islamic High School (STI). STI is located in Jakarta and led by Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir. Some other Muslim leaders involved in the process contributed to the establishment and development of STI. They include Drs. Mohammad Hatta, KH. Kahar Mudzakkir, KH. Wahid Hasyim, KH. Mas Mansur, KH. Fathurrahman Kafrawi, and Farid Ma'ruf. In 1946, STI was moved to Yogyakarta following the departure of the State Capital from Jakarta to Yogyakarta. Along with the development of STI was higher, on March 22, 1948 the name was changed to STI Indonesian Islamic University (UII) with the addition of new faculty-fakulta. Until 1948, UII has four faculties, namely (1) Faculty of Religion, (2) Faculty of Law, (3) Faculty of Economics, and (4) Faculty of Education.

Functional need for manpower in the Ministry of Religious Affairs became an important background of the establishment of Islamic universities. To meet these needs, the Faculty of Religious UII separated and transformed into the State Islamic University (PTAIN) and, according to its name-bersastus country. This change was based on Government Regulation (PP) No. 34 years old in 1950. In the preamble stated that the PTAIN aims to provide a high level of teaching Islamic studies and became a center for development and deepening of the Islamic religious sciences. Under the regulations, set PTAIN anniversary on 26 September 1950. PTAIN led KH. Muhammad Adnan with data on the number of students per 1951 as many as 67 people. In the same period PTAIN has three majors, namely Tarbiyah Programs, Programs Qadla (Sharia) and the Department of Da'wah.

Composition course at that time consisted of Arabic, Introduction to Religious Studies, Fiqh and Usul Fiqh, Tafseer, Hadith, Kalam Science, Philosophy, Mantiq, Akhlaq, Mysticism, Comparative Religion, Da'wah, Tarikh Islam, History of Islamic Culture, Science and Education Culture, Life Science, Introduction to Law, Principles of Public and Private Law, Ethnology, Sociology, and Economics. Students who pass the baccalaureate and doctoral each earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Doctorandus (Drs). PTAIN composition courses are the main colleges of Islamic studies that continued until times much later. Academic degree offered also persisted until the 1980s.
ADIA Period (1957-1960)

Manpower needs of the functional areas of the Islamic religion teacher who according to the demands of modernity in the 1950s founded the Academy encourages the Department of Religion Department of Religious Studies (ADIA), in Jakarta. ADIA was established on June 1, 1957 with the aim to educate and prepare public servants in order to obtain a diploma of education colleges and academies that spring to become a teacher of religion, good for public schools, vocational schools, or religious school. There are two main features of ADIA. First, in accordance with its mandate as the service academies, students enrolled in ADIA limited to student learning tasks. Period al-Jami'ah Faculty of IAIN Yogyakarta (1960-1963)

Increased number of students and widening the area of studies require expansion and additions, both in terms of institutional capacities, faculties and departments as well as the composition of subjects. IAIN With Wider Mandate

IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta as one of the oldest in Indonesia IAIN located in the capital Jakarta, occupies a unique and strategic position. He is not only a "window of Islam in Indonesia", but also sebaga symbol for the progress of national development, particularly in the field of socio-religious development. In an effort to integrate general knowledge and science of religion, these institutions began to develop themselves by IAIN concept with a broader mandate (IAIN with Wider Mandate) towards the formation of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta. This conversion step began intensified during the leadership of Prof. Dr. Azyumardi Azra, MA with the opening of Mathematics majoring in Psychology and Education at the Faculty of MT, and the Department of Economics and Islamic Banking in Faculty of Shariah in the academic year 1998/1999. To further strengthen this conversion step, in 2000 opened the Agribusiness and Study Program of Information Engineering in cooperation with the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) and the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) and Program Management Studies and Accounting. In 2001 was inaugurated the Faculty of Psychology and Dirasat Islamiyah in cooperation with Al-Azhar University, Egypt. In addition we also performed collaborative efforts with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) as lenders, the construction of a modern campus, McGill University, through the Canadian International Development Agencis (CIDA), Leiden University (INIS); Al-Azhar University (Cairo); King Saud University ( Riyadh), University of Indonesia, Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), Ohio University; Indonesian Institute of America (LIA); Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), Bank BNI, Bank Mu'amalat Indonesia (BMI), and the universities and institutions other agencies.

Along with that, a draft Presidential Decree on the amendment form becomes Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic IAIN Jakarta also has been recommended and consideration of the Minister of State for Administrative Reform and the Director General of Budget Ministry of Finance Decree No. 02/M-PAN/1/2002 dated January 9, 2002 and No. S -490/MK-2/2002 dated February 14, 2002. These recommendations form the basis for the release of Presidential Decree No. 031 dated May 20 Year 2002 on Amendment IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta to UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.
UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Period (Starting May 20, 2002)

With the exit of the Republic of Indonesia Presidential Decree No. 031 dated May 20, 2002 IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta officially changed to UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. It was inaugurated by Vice-President of the Republic of Indonesia, Hamzah Haz, on June 8, 2002 in conjunction with the ceremony's 45th anniversary and Lustrum to-9 and the first pole erection Campus development UIN Sharif Hidayatullah Jakarta, through funding the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). As a form of re-integration of science, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta since the academic year 2002/2003 specify the names of the faculty as follows:

Until the year 2008 to-72 finals UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has produced as many as 36 099 alumni, consisting of 19 174 Degree of Strata One (S1), 1273 Master Degree (S2), and 426 doctoral degree (S3). UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta continues to prepare students to be participating members of society who have the academic and professional capabilities that could apply, develop and / or creating a religious science and science related sciences in the broadest sense.
